Tere Zubizarreta’s pioneering role in multicultural marketing made her a well-known name in the business, but things weren’t always this way. Like many success stories, hers began humbly.In 1962, Tere was a job-seeking Cuban exile who, without a résumé or college degree, began her career in the ad world as a secretary at McCann/Marschalk Advertising. Armed with her “I don’t know, but I’ll learn” attitude, she worked her way through the agency’s many departments until she started her own agency, Zubi Advertising Services, and began to focus on the Hispanic segment in 1976.
